Zine Fair in the Chicago Public Schools
5 June 2004
Zine Guide and SPEC Chicago (Self-Publishers Event Council of Chicago) are proud to announce the Student Zine Festival in the Chicago Public Schools.
The Festival will take place from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Saturday, June 5th at Kelvyn Park High School, 4343 W Wrightwood Avenue in Chicago. Jesse Senechal, a teacher at Kelvyn Park High School and the advisor for a student publication called ROAR magazine, is organizing this end-of-the-school-year Student Zine Festival with conjunction with his ROAR magazine classes and Zine Guide.
The primary purpose of this event is to support high school student zine making and other forms of self-publication/production within the public and independent schools in the Chicago area. This festival will allow
students who are self-publishing zines to trade their work, share ideas and skills and establish distribution networks, while giving them an opportunity to network with non-students who are professionals in their fields.
The day will consist of workshops, panels and readings, all Involving both student and non-student facilitators and participants, with a trade table area being active between 11:00 12:00 and 3:00 4:00. Trade tables are free to all participants, and youıre encouraged to come for the entire day (11 am - 4 pm) and bring informational/promotional materials. Please RSVP if you would like to reserve table space.
Let us know if you would like to get involved, either in a workshop, panel, or doing a reading, or even just helping to spread the word to get others involved, especially high school students. Thanks.
